PHOENIX (KSAZ) - As Phoenix Pride Festival weekend wraps up today, hundreds took to the streets for a parade this morning.
There were no challenges today, just love, acceptance and courage as people came out to support Phoenix Pride Festival. The overall message of this huge celebration was equality for all.
"We want to celebrate all people from all different backgrounds, races, ages and I think it's just fantastic to have this opportunity to be here and do that today," said Carrington Hall-Dubois, Mr. Phoenix Pride 2018.
On the final day of Phoenix Pride, the streets packed with thousands, ranging from organizations to companies to families, all sharing messages of hope for a community.
"We're human beings. We're here. We deserve the same rights as everybody else,"
"My representation of Phoenix Pride is always going to be the diversity nd the unity that our country needs so much," said Mya McKenzie, Miss Phoenix Pride 2018. "People shouldn't be discriminated based on who they love."
The festival, in a sense, is an escape for some who otherwise feel common pressures of not being accepted.
"It's amazing when you walk through the gates for these two days, it's like you're in a different place, a different world," said one festival-goer.
Supporting Phoenix Pride, backing the LGBTQ community and unapologetically representing is what it's all about.
