Phoenix Rescue Mission donates hundreds of school supplies to children

PHOENIX (KSAZ) - More than 600 students received a backpack, uniform, books and school supplies Saturday as a part of Phoenix Rescue Mission's Back To School Drive.

"We just want to be able to connect them with what they need, and hopefully through that just alleviate some of the stress they might be dealing with," said Jussane Carrera, the community connections coordinator for Phoenix Rescue Mission.

Just ask Bernadette Jackson, a stay-at-home mother of four, who says any assistance she can get is a blessing.

"It does come to help with all the children that I have, especially my three little ones that are starting to go to preschool with uniforms that can cost a lot," said Jackson.

Between the backpacks, books and uniforms, it's a great way to ease the burden of getting back-to-school ready.

This is just one of four drives the mission does every year, and Carrera said PRM does plenty to also help the hungry and homeless.
