Phoenix Suns help transform neighborhood playground

Eight months of planning came down to this.

"In six hours it's going from nothing, ground zero, up to a beautiful playground," said Sarah Krahenbuhl, executive director of Phoenix Suns Charities.

It's a big goal that 200 Suns employees are teaming up with Chicanos por La Causa and Kaboom! to accomplish, by putting the pieces together, working as a team and completely rebuilding a playground in the Guadalupe Barrio Nuevo community.

"Their playground was about 20 years old and it was rusted and the kids are actively using it... 1,400 kids every year use the playground, so it was important that they got a new place to play," Krahenbuhl said.

The money comes from the Phoenix Suns Charities. About $100,000 has been spent here and it's thanks to Suns employees.

Back in April, they raised all that money in just one week to make all of this happen and support our community.

"We are so proud of what we do in the community and this is an opportunity for our employees to not only hear and see what we do in the community, but actually be a part of it," said Karen Rausch, vice president of human resources.

Suns players themselves joined in too and put the final touches on a new playground that will brighten the neighborhood up with plenty of purple and orange.
