Phoenix to host Marine Corps week next month

The Mayor of Phoenix announced that the city will be hosting "Marine Week" next month, it's the first for our state, and it will bring out around 700 Marines from across the nation.
700 Marines are headed to Phoenix in September for Marine Week.
They'll showcase their equipment, let you hop in a Humvee, and talk about what they do for our country. That's Lt. General David Berger's favorite part.
"It's one on one, just a Marine talking to the community, is probably the best for me," said Lt. Gen. Berger.
Every year the Marines travel to one city to show their capabilities, technology, and equipment.
"We try to find a city where there isn't a big Marine Corps presence from day to day, where the city wouldn't be so familiar with us and what we do, so this year out of all the cities, we spoke to the commandant and he selected Phoenix," said Berger.
City Hall is thrilled, past Marine weeks in other cities have drawn in over 120,000 people.
"It's a great opportunity for me to show my friends, I'm a resident of Phoenix, I live about five blocks away," said Major Barret Bradstreet.
And in case you're thinking about signing up, they're looking for someone with particular qualities.
"We're looking for someone who has the physical, mental, and moral standards that are the basis of the Marine Corps and someone who is looking for a higher challenge and is ready to serve his/her country," said Berger.
Arizona has just under 4,000 active duty Marines and 790 Marine Corps reservists.
