Police: 11-year-old boy hit, killed by truck in Peoria

PEORIA, Ariz. (KSAZ) - Police say an 11-year-old boy has died after he was hit by a pickup truck traveling on Peoria Avenue near 79th Avenue at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday.

"The preliminary investigation shows the driver of the pickup was traveling eastbound on Peoria Avenue when the pedestrian ran across Peoria Avenue in front of the pickup. The child was struck by the pickup and later transported to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased," stated Peoria Police Officer Mitchell Fuller.

Police say the male driver of the pickup truck remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. He was not injured.

The intersection was closed for several hours on Wednesday, but was reopened for traffic at approximately 6:00 p.m.
