Police investigate crash that left 1 dead, 2 injured

Police are investigating a violent crash in west Phoenix that left at least one man dead and two others hurt.

The collision happened Thursday night near 51st Avenue and Osborn. Investigators spent much of the evening trying to sort out what exactly took place.

Police say the driver of a pickup truck appeared to be speeding on 51st Avenue. The car that was hit was turning in front of the truck onto Osborn. The impact of the crash was so intense that the car's engine block fell out.

One man was pronounced dead at the scene. Two girls, ages 19 and 15, were transported to an area hospital. The extent of their injuries is not known at this time.

A third vehicle was in the area at the time of the crash. Police say it was found near 51st Avenue and Indian School Road. The people in that vehicle have been temporarily detained.

We're working to get an update on all of the victims and if the third vehicle did in fact have something to do with the crash.

No names have been released in this case.
