BUCKEYE, Ariz. (KSAZ) - A 5-month-old boy is dead, following a stabbing incident in Buckeye Monday afternoon.
According to police, the infant died from stab injuries, and the mother, identified as 29-year-old Andrea Portillo, is in custody, and is facing second degree murder and felony child abuse charges. She was taken to Maricopa County Jail Monday night.
Officials said they are a little baffled as to what happened, noting that they have never had any sort of domestic calls at the home. Police did say Portillo was married, and the father of the victim may have been home at the time.
The incident happened at 10:30 a.m. Monday, when police received a call from 911 at the house. The boy was taken to Phoenix Children's Hospital, when he was later pronounced dead.
