Police: Body found in W. Phoenix park was shot multiple times

Police are investigating the death of a man at a west Phoenix park near 87th Avenue and Clarendon.

They say officers were called early Thursday to a greenbelt in a residential area on reports of an unconscious man. When police arrived at the scene, they say they found the 19-year-old man dead at the scene.

Officials say the body had obvious signs of trauma, indicating foul play.

A woman approached FOX 10, explaining that it was her cousin who was shot.

Priscilla Trujillo, a neighbor, told police they heard gunshots sometime between 12:45 a.m. and 2:00 a.m.

"I heard four shots go off after another, boom boom boom, and then it stopped," said Trujillo. "I went back to sleep and when I woke up, all the police officers were out there."

Police weren't called until the sun rose this morning and someone discovered the 19-year-old lying in the field area.

"It's a tragedy for the family, and my prayers go out to them, whoever they are," said Trujillo.

Police arrested a 17-year-old boy in the killing of Naz Moothery. The teen's identity is not being released due to his age, nor is the reason for the shooting.
