Surprise Police: Suspect in deadly apartment shooting dead

Surprise Police say the suspect in a deadly apartment shooting in Surprise Tuesday morning is dead.

According to a statement released by Sgt. Greg Welch Tuesday night, the suspect, previously identified as 44-year-old Michael Lee Peacock, was found by authorities on I-25 near Albuquerque, New Mexico at around 5:30 p.m., and as officers approached Peacock, he fled on foot, and killed himself a short distance from where he was located.

According to a previous statements released by Surprise Police, the shooting happened at an apartment complex near the Loop 303 and Peoria Avenue. When officers arrived at the scene, they found the victim in the parking lot with a gunshot wound.

The victim, identified late Tuesday afternoon by Surprise Police as 23-year-old Erick Prieto, was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
