Mother has doubts after crash in Phoenix kills her 23-year-old son

Phoenix police say horseplay between two men resulted in one being killed and the other being arrested.

Sgt. Alan Pfohl says a 23-year-old man, since identified as Terrance Veale, was hit by a vehicle Thursday night after being pushed by the other man and then stumbling onto a street while they were on a sidewalk.

Pfohl says 26-year-old Tyrone David Turner was arrested on suspicion of negligent homicide.

Online court records don't show whether he has an attorney who could comment on the allegation.

The incident occurred on West Dunlap Avenue near North 19th Avenue. Meanwhile, the victim's parents have doubts about the story.

"They said horseplay," said Myrna Mahone, Terrance's mother. "I heard something about horseplay. I don't think so."

Mahone, who had just seen her son hours before the incident, is in mourning.

"You don't think this day will come," said Mahone. "And then when it does, I'm still numb, I feel weird."

The victim's family said he was an expecting father, with big plans for himself.

"He wanted to go back to high school to finish his GED, and just be a good father to his son or his child," said Frank Veale.

While Mahone understands she won't get her son back, she eventually wants to heace of mind back, and answers to the many questions she has may help.

"Why this person did that? Was he intoxicated? Were they both intoxicated? Did he know him long? Why did he push him?" asked Mahone.

Mahone said the storyline provided by police sounded nothing like her son.
