Police: Man shot, killed in central Phoenix; suspect on the run

Police say a man was killed and a suspect is on the run following an overnight shooting at a Phoenix apartment complex on Tuesday.

Not just the shooting, but also, the way it unfolded, is leaving residents feeling uneasy.

"The guy opened the door and he was just immediately shot," said Vanessa Aldaz, a resident.

"Scary, really scary," added another resident, Kenneth Haire.

Phoenix Police are confirming what residents told FOX 10 -- that around midnight, a man entered the complex near 12th Street and Indian School, knocked on the victim's front door and when the victim answered, the suspect opened fire.

The victim, described as a Hispanic male in his 30s, was shot several times and later died at an area hospital.

"It's scary because you don't know if that person is caught if they're still running around, maybe they're looking for their next victim," said Aldaz.

Neighbors say the victim was friendly and leaves behind a wife and young child.

"No problems, very nice people, mind their business, go to work everyday like I do," said Haire.

A family that will be celebrating without a loved one this Thanksgiving.

"My prayers and my condolences go out to the family," said Vincent Howard, a resident.

The victim's name has not been released.

Police have not released a suspect description or motive for the shooting.
