GOODYEAR, Ariz. (KSAZ) - Police have found a mother and child who were stuck in the desert overnight after crashing their car into a ditch.
The Goodyear Police Department says the mother called 911 on Monday at 10:45 p.m., and said she had drove her car into a ditch at the sound end of Estrella Parkway. When police arrived on the scene, they discovered that the woman and her 11-year-old daughter had left the area.
After a large search, that included Goodyear police, K-9 units, Phoenix police and Arizona Department of Public Safety helicopters, the 11-year-old girl was found about a mile out in the desert and her mother was found shortly after.
Police learned the mother and daughter had just moved to Phoenix from Utah and were driving at the sound end of Estrella Parkway when the mother tried to drive out of the desert and got stuck in sand.
The mother was disoriented, left the vehicle and walked east into the desert.
Goodyear police want to remind everyone to always be prepared for emergencies.
The identities of the mother and child have not been released.
