Police: naked suspect fights with officer

Flagstaff Police have arrested a man who was seen running through the woods without any clothes on.

The incident happened on July 30, around 6:15 p.m. when someone called reporting the man naked and behaving suspiciously.

Officer Beckwith called for additional officers and turned on his body camera. Police say the man was nude and yelling out when the officers arrived.

At one point the suspect reportedly told the officer to take his clothes off. Despite several commands to the suspect, Beckwith deployed a taser but it did not work. Police say the suspect attacked the officer, injuring him so he could not stand.

Flagstaff Police say an off-duty NAU Officer, DPS Trooper, and a citizen came to the aid of the officer who was continuing to resist.

Medical personnel took the suspect to the hospital.

Investigators say the suspect may have been under the influence of bath salts or some other mind-altering substance.

Beckwith was taken to the hospital where he was treated for lacerations and bruising.

Monday afternoon police identified the suspect as 25-year-old Stanley Barnes.
