PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Police say a 36-week-pregnant woman is dead, but her baby survived, after she was shot in north Phoenix early Sunday morning.
Phoenix police say 23-year-old Jasmine Ponce was shot near 19th Avenue and Union Hills Drive at 2:45 a.m. by 34-year-old Christopher Kraft.
Investigators say Kraft became involved in a dispute with residents of a nearby apartment, and when he returned to his apartment to retrieve a gun, Ponce attempted to stop him and she was shot by Kraft.
Ponce was taken to a hospital in extremely critical condition where she later died. Her baby was delivered during emergency surgery and is in good condition.
Kraft was booked into jail on counts of second-degree murder and tampering with evidence after he allegedly disposed of the handgun.
