NEAR SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (KSAZ) - A Salt River police officer opened fire on a suspect Friday, following a confrontation near the Loop 101 and Talking Stick Way.
The scene, as of late Friday afternoon, was still active, with the road still blocked off. According to Salt River Police officials, calls came in before noon of a person acting suspicious and gesturing to have a weapon.
When officers arrived, the suspect, who police say was indeed armed, advanced at the officer in a threatening wy, and the officer subsequently fired at the suspect, hitting him at least once.
The suspect was reportedly taken to a hospital, but his condition is not known. The incident affected traffic, especially for those heading to Salt River Fields for spring training games.
The FBI is taking over the investigation.
