Police: Suspect fired shots at DPS vehicle in Avondale

A suspect has been arrested, following an incident where he allegedly fired shots at an Arizona Department of Public Safety vehicle in Avondale.

The incident, which led to a subsequent search for the suspect, resulted in four schools and a hospital being put on lockdown. In all, the dramatic incident played out for nearly three hours.

The incident began near 107th Avenue and Indian School in Avondale, and ended 30 miles away, near I-17 and Dove Valley Road.

According to Raul Garcia with DPS, the incident began with a traffic stop over window tinting. Officials with Avondale Police said the suspect fired shots at the DPS vehicle, and the left the scene.

No troopers were hurt.

According to a statement released by Avondale Police Thursday evening, the suspect has been identified as 29-year-old Luis Aldana. According to the statement, Aldana suffered a gunshot wound to his upper extremity, and is in stable condition.

The incident remains under investigation.
