Police: 6-year-old girl shot during dispute in west Phoenix

PHOENIX (AP) -- A 6-year-old girl was shot in the shoulder area in west Phoenix after people she was traveling with in a vehicle got involved in a dispute with other people.

Police spokesman Sgt. Armando Carbajal says the girl wasn't the intended target in the shooting that happened Wednesday at 10:43 p.m.

The girl was being treated at a hospital for injuries that aren't believed to be life-threatening.

The child and her family members were in the vehicle around Thomas Road and 67th Avenue when the argument began with people who were outside the vehicle.

The subject of the dispute is unknown. Police say the vehicle's occupants drove away after the shooting.

No arrests have been made and no one else was injured in the dispute.
