Police: suspect stabbed friend 70 times

There are new details released in the murder of a Phoenix man. Police say his longtime friend stabbed him dozens of times, then took off with the victim's things.

Investigators are still looking into what led one man to allegedly stab his friend to death. According to court documents released, the suspect may have tried to profit from the murder.

Candles burn in front of the home near 10th and Taylor Streets where 21-year-old Matthew McClean's body was discovered inside just days ago. The victims longtime friend is now facing murder charges.

Phoenix Police say 22-year-old Matthew Meiner used a knife to stab the victim more than 70 times.

Investigators say it had been days since anyone heard from the victim before his body was found.

According to court documents, the victim's ex-girlfriend went to check on the victim. She saw blood covering the floor and called her boss, the boss went inside and saw a body wrapped in a blanket and then they called police.

Detectives say several items were missing from the property, including the victim's Silver Audi car.

Police turned their attention to the suspect after investigators say the suspect sold at least one of the victim's possessions after the purchasers told police they saw the suspect driving a dark colored Audi.

Authorities say the suspect's left hand was bandaged.

Two days after discovering the victim's body, the suspect went to see an attorney, and outside of that office police arrested him for allegedly murdering his long-time friend.

Court documents do not indicate a motive, but it does say the victim and suspect were involved in selling drugs. The victim's car is still missing and the suspect is expected to be in court on December 31.
