Popnology exhibit opens at AZ Science Center

- Creativity, imagination, pop culture, and technology. That is what the latest exhibit at the Arizona Science Center entails.

From robotics to 3-D printed limbs, to the very first cell phone.

"Things that we thought were impossible are now possible," said Troy Carlson.

Inspired by science fiction and fact, the Arizona Science Center is hosting the world premiere of "Popnology."

It's the fusion of pop culture and technology, and the unique thing about the Arizona Science Center is their mixture of visual and immersive learning.

"You'll see the cases that show you the very first cell phone, to modern concepts, and that's your visual pieces. But you'll also be putting on the Oculus Rift and experience the virtual reality of the future," said David

So what else is on display, the Mars Rover and the world's first 3D printed car.

The developers and creators of the exhibits say the greatest part of pop culture to inspire them were TV shows and movies.

"You'll get to see concepts and design from some of the greatest futuristic looking movies like Star Wars, and Back to the Future, and then you get to see things that are tied together and real," said Jay Rodgers.

"What I think is wonderful here is that I see toys I played with as a kid, I saw movies that inspired me as a kid, and then as a founder and creator of Local Motors who is building the future to be in that same room with those people is a wonderful thing," said Rodgers.

Creators say the exhibit is perfect for kids because it will give them the opportunity to dream that they can make the products of the future.

The exhibit opens February 7 and runs through May 15.
