Prison inmate walks away from work crew in Phoenix

UPDATE (8/1/2018) -- Glendale Police identified Skyler B. Martin as the person killed in an officer involved shooting that happened on July 31, 2018.

Officials with the Arizona Department of Corrections said a prison inmate walked away from a supervised off-site work crew Thursday.

According to a statement, Skyler B. Martin walked away from a supervised off-site work crew, which was working near the 2500 block of S. 27th Avenue. Martin, who is housed at ASP-Phoenix West, was sentenced to 7.5 years out of Maricopa County for aggravated DUI. He was admitted to the ADC on April 11, 2017.

According to prison records provided by the ADC, Martin was assigned to a work program in late January of 2018, and was assigned to Maricopa County Animal Care and Control. Prison records showed no previous disciplinary infractions for Martin.

ADC officials say its chase teams and fugitive apprehension units have been dispatched, and Phoenix Police is helping in the search.

Martin is described in prison records as a white man, 5 feet, 11 inches tall, weighing 150 lbs, with black hair and brown eyes. Anyone with information on his whereabouts should call 911.
