Rain expected across the valley this week

- The valley is expected to receive several storms this week bringing cooler high temperatures and rain throughout the week.

Forecasters with the National Weather Service say the first storm is passing through California and should reach Arizona Monday evening.

Officials estimate the valley could receive up to 1.5 to 1.75 inches of rain this week, with higher totals possible north and east of the valley.

Light showers are expected to continue on Tuesday, but a wet system will bring almost a 100 percent chance of rain in the valley by midnight.

Authorities want to remind motorists that these storms can cause flash flooding in low lying areas and washes, motorists should use caution. ADOT officials are constantly monitoring the roadways in anticipation of any problems.

The rainfall has caused minimal damage in the valley, but it knocked out power near Scottsdale and Shea Boulevard for several hours on Wednesday morning.
