Rain, snow falls across Arizona

Many people across Arizona woke up to a weather alert on Monday morning.

Part of the valley saw heavy rainfall beginning on Sunday night and into the early-morning hours of Monday. The rain made for tough driving conditions on valley roads, with the Arizona Department of Transportation warning drivers to be alert when driving in these conditions.

When there's rain in the valley, that usually means snow in the high country. In Flagstaff, many people experienced a rare phenomenon known as "thunder snow," which is what is sounds like when lightning happens during a snow storm.

As of midnight, Flagstaff had already received 2.4 inches of snow and all Flagstaff Unified Schools are closed on Monday.

In Prescott, the snow was falling hard on Monday morning and all Prescott Unified Schools are on a two-hour delay.

As a result of the inclement weather, many schools are closed in northern Arizona. Flagstaff and Prescott Unified Schools are all closed on Monday.
