Red Cross volunteers heading to Florida for Hurricane Michael relief efforts

PHOENIX (KSAZ) -- For the second time in less than a month, volunteers with the Greater Phoenix Red Cross chapter have been deployed to a hurricane disaster.

Many volunteers are still in the Carolinas after Hurricane Florence, and a handful of volunteers flew out of Arizona on Tuesday. On Wednesday morning, one of the last Red Cross volunteers left headquarters and flew into Orlando. He was supposed to fly into Tallahassee, but that airport is shut down. Meanwhile, volunteers are staging in Orlando until it's safe for them to travel into the disaster area.

Red Cross volunteers from Arizona expect to be in the Florida Panhandle for the next two weeks, and many volunteers will likely be sleeping in cots in shelters along with the evacuees, depending on hotel conditions in the area.
