Residents, children escape injury during apartment fire

Residents, including several children, were not injured during an early-morning apartment fire on Monday.

The Phoenix Fire Department tells Fox 10 that the fire broke out at an apartment complex near 22nd Avenue and Thunderbird at 5:30 a.m. Children living in the apartments were quickly alerted by adults of the fire, and thankfully, everyone got out safe.

Firefighters on the scene even handed out teddy bears and blankets to calm the frightened children!

Investigators say the fire was caused by an electric BBQ grill that was on a second-story balcony.

Fox 10's Courtney Griffin was at the scene and she has the story.
