Residents evacuated from high-rise fire in Tempe
TEMPE, Ariz. - Crews were called to a high rise building after reports of a fire on Thursday morning near Loop 202 and Scottsdale Road.
It happened around 4 a.m. at the Ten01 apartments. Police and firefighters from Phoenix, Scottsdale, Chandler and Mesa were at the scene -- a large turnout because the complex has about 500 units.
Firefighters quickly put out the flames, but a three inch pipe burst during the blaze, so massive amounts of water began gushing through the complex.
FOX 10's Anita Roman spoke to some residents about the fire:
"There was just banging on our doors, cops running up and down the halls, telling us to evacuate.. there was a fire in the building."
"The tower of our building.. the top floor was all smoky, then a bunch of water just dripping."
Dozens of people are displaced and plenty of repairs have to be made to the building.
