Rock 'N' Roll Marathon underway

- Runners in the Rock 'N' Roll Marathon have been filling streets across the Valley on Sunday.   Runners are taking part in the full 26.2 marathon or the 10k event, and many are working to improve their race time and burn off some calories from the holidays.

31-year-old Tommy Puzey of Flagstaff was announced the men's winner of the full marathon with a time of 2:46:42.  The winner in the women's competition finished with a time of 2:46:42.

At the starting line, Courtney Griffin caught up with one runner, Jake Hernandez with Best Buddies Arizona, who is in one of the eleven teams running in honor of the organization.

The average runner completes the marathon in about four hours, but the winner could hit the finish line at Rio Salado and Ash in Tempe within two hours, as early as 10:15am.

Runners in the Rock 'N" Roll Marathon are packed in the valley streets today, causing some road closures.
Drivers will want to be aware of some streets that are shut down in Phoenix, Scottsdale and Tempe.

Major Sunday road closures include:
    7th Ave. closed from I-10 to Missouri Ave.
    Missouri Ave. closed from 7th Ave. to 24th St.
    Camelback Rd. closed from 24th St. to Arcadia
    Indian School Rd closed from 48th St. Goldwater
    48th St. closed from Indian School Rd. to McDowell Rd. and Northbound from McDowell Rd. to Van Buren St.
    Van Buren closed from 48th St. to Priest
    University closed from Forest Ave. to Rural Rd.
    McDowell closed from Scottsdale Rd. to Hayden Rd.
