Sandy Hook victim's father, found dead in apparent suicide, had Arizona connection

NEWTOW, Conn. (AP/FOX 10) -- There is an Arizona connection with the father of one of the children killed in the Sandy Hook shooting in who was found dead of an apparent suicide Monday.

Newtown police say the body of 49-year-old Jeremy Richman was found Monday morning inside Newtown's Edmond Town Hall, where he had an office. On its verified Facebook page, Officials with the Newtown police Department say the death does not appear to be suspicious, and an autopsy is expected to be done Monday, per normal protocol.

Richman was the father of Avielle Richman, one of the first-graders killed along with six educators in the shooting on Dec. 14, 2012. He and his wife created The Avielle Foundation, a group dedicating to preventing violence by seeking a better understanding of brain health.

Meanwhile, FOX 10 has learned there is an Arizona connection with Richman. According to a profile on the Yale School of Medicine's website, Richman, who is listed as a Lecturer in Psychiatry, graduated from the University of Arizona in 1992. Also, the Tucson Sentinel newspaper is reporting that Richman graduated from Sabino High School in 1988.
