Scottsdale neighbors reach agreement with BASIS school

The fight over whether to relocate a Scottsdale charter school came to a head at Scottsdale City Hall.

It was a standing room only crowd as the council voted on whether to allow Basis Charter School to relocate. The school which is located at 136th St and Via Linda wants to relocate a few miles away near 128th St and Shea.

Many parents were upset, claiming the new location was too busy for a school, putting students in danger.

"Not once have I heard with the same vigor the engineers discuss how the students will walk safely or bike safely across six lanes of traffic and two turn lanes across busy Shea boulevard," said one parent.

Neighbors reached a last minute agreement with the school and the Scottsdale City Council approved the school's relocation plan by a vote of 6-1.

Basis plans to have the new school ready by August.
