Sculpture set on toilet in front of Phoenix home sparks discussion

Every once in a while, you come across somebody who is a real original. Someone like Don Russell.

Maybe you've driven by this yardful of art on Adams Street, just east of Interstate 17 near the Arizona State Capitol, scratched your head and kept going. But we stopped, because that's how we roll.

I decided to start things off with a question that would make any art critic proud.

"Well, so all this iron over here is inspired by the Phoenix Recycling Program. Everything is made out of recycled iron. This piece is made out of recycled iron and recycled politics even," he said.

Did he go there? Yes, he went there.

"You guys watching the news lately and there is a politician with this color hair, he says politics is such crap and we all know who that is, right?" asked Russell.

I'll give you a hint. It's Donald Trump, and also everyone in Congress, too.

"Here is all the political things Democrats, Republicans making this crap and he is sitting on the crapper right?" said Russell.

Forget about draining the swamp. Don Russell is flushing the toilet.

Not everyone is a fan.

"I mean, it is a good artwork, but this specific one. Everyone's a critic," said Stepheni Wake.

But other neighbors say Don Russell is on to something.

"I love it honestly. I get somebody knocking on the door twice a week if he is selling it if I can drop him a card or something," said Alen Barker, a neighbor.

Russell has already done a lot of artwork, but he says he has a lot more to do.
