Several families displaced after fire burns apartment complex

It was a scary start to the new year for some valley residents after a fire at an apartment building has displaced several families.

Early Friday morning, Glendale, Avondale and Phoenix fire departments responded to a blaze at the Terrace Park apartment complex near 83rd Avenue and Indian School Road. What began as a single unit apartment fire, it ended up displacing five units. Officials say those 10 adults and five children will have to find another place to stay as the damage is being assessed.

Thankfully, there were no reports of injuries to tenants or firefighters, but residents say it was a shocking way to start the new year.

"I walked outside and my hallway was engulfed in smoke and so I just started grabbing what I could.. I grabbed a bag of clothes and my tools and they told me I wasn't allowed to go back up there, so Im just hoping that everything works out," said Jeff Miller.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
