After years of questioning President Obama's national origin, Donald Trump suddenly reversed his course saying the President was born in the United States.
One of his most prominent backers, Sheriff Joe Arpaio, says he is still investigating the President's birth certificate.
For years Donald Trump has been the country's biggest birther, doubting President Obama was born in the United States.
On Friday morning, Trump changed his tune.
"President Barack Obama was born in the United States period."
Mr. Trump claimed Hillary Clinton got the birther ball rolling.
"Hillary Clinton and her campaign of 2008 started the birther controversy. I finished it I finished it you know what I mean."
Hillary Clinton says that is a lie.
"He's feeding into the worst impulses...the bigotry and bias that lurks in our country."
Although Trump now wants to move on, Sheriff Arpaio is still investigating the President's birth certificate.
FOX 10 asked if Arpaio agreed with Trump that the president was born in the United States.
"I have no idea. I do have ideas about a birth certificate yes and that is my job right now we have no info to substantiate that that is a legitimate document right now," said Sheriff Joe.
In the past Donald Trump has agreed with Joe Arpaio.
The Sheriff says his Obama investigation remains open.
Meanwhile Paul Penzone, running for Sheriff against Joe Arpaio this November, calls the Sheriff's investigation "a waste of resources" and "nonsense".
