Sheriff: Man breaks into Tucson animal shelter, steals dog

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) -- Authorities are investigating a break-in and theft of a dog from the Humane Society of Southern Arizona's main facility in Tucson.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department says the dog was stolen late the night of March 5 by a man who damaged a security camera and forced his way into the dog's kennel.

The dog is described as a mostly brown year-old male Basenji mix weighing about 35 pounds.

The suspect was last seen wearing a baseball cap, camouflage pants, white shoes, a white t-shirt and glasses.

DOGNAPPER STRIKES AT HUMANE SOCIETYOn March 5, 2016 at approximately 11:45 p.m. a basenji mix dog was stolen from the Humane Society located at 3450 N. Kelvin Blvd. Rincon District deputies responded the next day to begin the investigation. It's unknown how the suspect gained entry into the facility, however, he damaged a security camera and forced his way into the dog's kennel.Detectives with the Community Problems Unit are asking for the public's assistance in identifying this suspect.The suspect is described as:- Male- Last seen wearing a baseball cap, camouflage pants, white shoes, a white t-shirt, and glassesThe dog is described as:- One-year-old male Basenji mix- Approximately 30-40 pounds- Brown in color with dark fur around its ears and mouth and a white spot on the front of his chestAnyone with information about this incident or the identity of the suspect is asked to call 9-1-1 or 88-CRIME.
