Sheriff's deputies shoot teen during confrontation

CASA GRANDE, Ariz. (KSAZ) - A 16-year-old teenager is in critical condition after being involved in a shooting with sheriff's deputies.

The Pinal County Sheriff's Office says deputies responded to a home in the 5000 block of N. Toltec Buttes Rd., at 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday after reports of an armed teen threatening to shoot someone inside the house. When deputies arrived at the home, they shot the teen during a confrontation.

Investigators say the teen shot is the ex-boyfriend of a girl who lives at the home where the shooting happened. He had previously threatened the family. But after the shooting they found he was unarmed.

Two deputies opened fire when the boy refused to put his hands up, yelled for the deputies to shoot him, and advanced on the deputies.

No deputies were injured in the shooting and the teen was flown to a Phoenix hospital with multiple gunshot wounds. The teen is in critical condition.

PCSO is conducting an internal investigation into the shooting, all four deputies are on administrative leave.
