Social media battle: Arizona Cardinals vs. Carolina Panthers

- Arizona Cardinals fans were on fire after the thrilling ending to last Saturday's game and the excitement continues to mount, especially on social media.

Cardinals fans have been talking about the team on Facebook and Twitter. Recently, Sports Illustrated magazine ranked the @AZCardinals Twitter account as the second best in the entire NFL to the @Panthers' Twitter account.

Just as the Cardinals are preparing to crush the Panthers on the field, their social media team is gunning for first place in the Twitterverse.

From Drew Stanton's happy dance on the sideline, to dramatic catches and highlights of games, Cardinals fans don't have to be glued to the TV anymore to catch their favorite team in action.  They can count on Twitter and Facebook to keep them connected.  The Cardinals have a team of about a half dozen people who are constantly clipping video, posting, tweeting and streaming the action on to a variety of social media platforms.

"Our reach and engagement on Facebook is up over 300 percent, so it shows you just how dialed into the playoff game and the dramatic way it ended. People just cant get enough," explained Tim Delany, Arizona Cardinals' Vice President of Broadcasting/Content.

The team's Twitter account has seen an over 500 percent increase in followers in the last couple of months. According to Sports Illustrated, at this point, the only team that does a better job at reaching fans on Twitter happens to be the Panthers.

"We got our work cut out for us all week and game day will be our fourth quarter of our competition against the Panthers' Twitter account," said Delany.

He says the secret to their success will be their ability to not only get the latest updates on the team out there, but to also grab your attention in 140 characters.

"But I think the most important thing you want to match the passion of the fans."

And as the team prepares to take on the Panthers Sunday night, this team is preparing to beat the Panthers in their own realm.

"Our goal is by the end of the weekend for us to be the most popular Twitter account in the NFL," said Delany.
