South Phoenix woman dies from stabbing, son arrested

- A woman was fatally stabbed during what appears to be a domestic violence incident in south Phoenix on Sunday.

Police said they responded to reports of a family fight around 11 a.m. at a home near 43rd Avenue and Baseline Road.

Police found a woman, identified as 63-year-old Mercy Gomez, who had been stabbed. She died at a nearby hospital.

The suspect in the stabbing was detained and has been identified as her son, 42-year-old Olanzo Gomez.

Gomez faces one count of first-degree murder and three counts of aggravated assault.
