Special election to be held in March to determine next Phoenix mayor

PHOENIX (KSAZ) - There will be another election in March to determine who will be the next mayor of Phoenix.

None of the four candidates received more than 50 percent of the vote on Tuesday night, so there will be a runoff on March 12, 2019 between the top two vote getters -- Kate Gallego and Daniel Valenzuela.

Interim Mayor Thelda Williams has held the position since Greg Stanton resigned to run for Congress.

Stanton was declared the winner in his District 9 congressional race against GOP candidate Stephen L. Ferrera.
