State certifies special election results

The State of Arizona has officially certified the special election results. Two propositions concerning school funding and public safety retirement measures have passed.

Prop. 123 passed by a razor thin margin, that means the battle over the school funding measure is far from over.

The measure boosts funding for schools grades K-12 by tapping the state land trust, in order to add $3.5 billion in new spending over the next decade.

A federal lawsuit has been filed challenging the proposition. Treasurer Jeff DeWitt has already taken the step to ask the Arizona Attorney General for an opinion whether using the trust land funding is legal.

Governor Doug Ducey says this has been a heated topic, but the people have voted, and it's time to get the money flowing.
