GLENDALE, Ariz. (KSAZ) - Police in Glendale have a warning for parents, after a man allegedly lurked around Sierra Verde Elementary School on Thursday, and grabbed a 12-year-old girl by the backpack.
The girl, according to police, was able to get away. Police said the suspect chased after the girl. The school is located near 75th Avenue and Loop 101. Hayden Fior, who goes to school at Sierra Verde, said she is scared, and walked to school this morning more alert than usual.
"I was just really scared, because as she said, we walk to school every morning, and you wouldn't think of that happening in this part of the neighborhood," said Hayden's mother, Christie McDermott.
School officials have since alerted parents, with a letter detailing what happened. Meanwhile, Glendale Police are urging students to walk in groups, and investigators said officers will patrol the area with heightened presence, before and after school.
A detailed description of the man has not been released, and the man is still at large.
