Student accused of making threats against McClintock High School

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP/KSAZ) - Police in Tempe say a 16-year-old female McClintock High School student has been arrested for allegedly making threats against the school.

They say the teenager has been suspended from school.

Police say the teen was taken into custody on October 7, and was charged with making a terrorist threat, interfering with an educational institution and use of electronic communication to terrify, intimidate, threaten or harass.

The school reported receiving the threat that resulted from a social media post on Sept. 25. Tempe police and the Tempe Union School District investigated the threat as well as providing extensive security to the McClintock campus.

Officials stated, "The Tempe Police Department takes the same stance as the FBI, "IT'S NOT A JOKE," issuing a threat over social media, text or email is a federal crime punishable by up to 5 years in prison."
