PHOENIX (KSAZ) - One of the things that may come to mind during the summer time is ice cream. Folks in the Valley are enjoying frozen treats to beat the heat.
Brandon Douglas, owner of Novel Ice Cream in Phoenix, says the heat brings in good foot traffic to this shop.
"We've seen a huge jump, especially today and last week," Douglas says. "People are trying to escape the heat by getting some ice cream."
"We have a very small shop but it is air conditioned so we have ice cream, so we are keeping people's core temperatures down a bit," Douglas says.
FOX 10's Stephanie Olmo also caught up with some hikers who cannot escape the outdoors despite the high temperatures.
"I...come during the hottest hour of the day for the challenge and I'm just used to it," says hiker Lee Thomason.
Heat safety in the summer is important, especially while living in the Arizona desert.
"The rangers have a rule," says Thomason. "If 50 percent of your water is gone, turn around, come down. That's a good rule for people who aren't used to it."
"Make sure you have enough water," says hiker Crystal McArthur. "If you have someone to hike with, even better. Just really listen to your body."
