Surprise party for grocery store employee in Maricopa

MARICOPA, Ariz. (KSAZ) - It's a surprise party one man in Maricopa will never forget.

Werner Andrasen has been working with Fry's Food Stores for over two decades, and the party was part of Desert Financial's Random Act of Kindness campaign: giving back to someone in need.

"It was very good they did this for me," said Andrasen. While his birthday is not until June 17, he received the very special surprise on Tuesday.

"We're celebrating his birthday early today," said Jeff Meshey, President and CEO of Desert Financial. "We got pizza and cake and nice gifts for him."

Andrasen's co-workers decided to throw him a birthday party inside Fry's. Desert Financial is located inside the groceries store, and as part of their Random Act of Kindness campaign, they chose to thank Andrasen for everything he does for those around him.

"He's one of our biggest fans," said Meshey. "He does a lot if things for us, and we really appreciate him and we want to show him how much we appreciate him."

Desert Financial is providing each branch with a small budget to encourage members to give back to someone who needs it. They say their goal is to give away $6 million this year.

Andrasen's surprise birthday party is just a small part of that.
