Man injured in officer-involved shooting in central Phoenix

PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Phoenix police say a suspect is expected to survive after being shot by an officer over the weekend.

According to Phoenix police, officers responded near Glenrosa and 23rd Avenue on Sunday afternoon after someone reported seeing people using drugs in the alley.

One of the suspects ran away on foot and an officer chased him. The suspect tried to jump a fence and when the officer ordered the suspect to stop, the suspect got down from the fence.

The suspect crouched down, facing away from the officer, and the officer drew his weapon. The suspect then stood up, turned and charged at the officer, grabbing his gun.

The officer maintained control of his gun and shot the suspect.

The suspect was transported to a nearby hospital where he is expected to survive.

His identity has not been released.
