PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Phoenix Police officials have identified the suspect in an officer involved shooting that happened on Saturday.
According to a statement released by Sgt. Mercedes Fortune late Monday morning, 48-year-old Ronald Barney was shot by officers, and died after he was taken to the hospital. The incident, according to earlier statements,officers were first called out to the 3600 block of W. Diana Avenue at around 7:45 a.m. Saturday, for a report of a man with a gun. When officers arrived, Barney got into a black car and fled. Officers then followed the car to the area of Ruth and 37th Avenues, where the Barney stopped the car. Barner then exited the car, and pointed a handgun at the officers. One of the officers then shot the suspect.
According to Sgt. Fortune, the officer is a 34-year-old man with 11 years of service. No officers were injured.
