Suspect in wild pursuit appears in court

- It was one of the wildest police chases the valley has seen in some time. A southern Arizona man wanted for alleged hit and run led police on a pursuit through the east valley. It ended with a crash on I-10, but not before he tried to carjack a motorcyclist in Mesa.

31-year-old Joshua Monigold has been hospitalized for the past several days following the crash that ended the pursuit; now he's in jail facing charges.

31-year-old Monigold appeared in a Maricopa County court Monday where he faced a judge and heard the charges filed against him.

Monigold is facing charges of vehicle theft, unlawful flight, criminal damage, failure to yield, reckless driving, aggravated driving, and attempted robbery.

Court documents reveal the lead up to the chase. Marana Police told Mesa Police that Monigold was wanted for hit and run. The truck he allegedly stole was spotted in Mesa. Officers were told Monigold may have been armed and had been threatening suicide by cop. The documents also show Mesa Police fired two shots at Monigold when he tried to carjack the motorcyclist near Dobson Road and Southern.

In court, he did not say much but was visibly shaken as the charges were read. A judge ordered he be held on a $50,000 bond.

Monigold will appear back in court on April 4.
