Suspects sought in strong arm robbery incident at Tempe light rail station

Tempe police are looking for a man and a woman, in connection with a strong-arm robbery incident that happened on a light rail platform in December 2017.

According to a statement released by Tempe police on Wednesday, the incident happened on December 10, at the University Drive/Rural light rail station platform. Police officials say the suspects forcibly removed personal items from the victim, who suffered a serious head injury as a result.

Tempe police describe the first suspect as a black male in his 20s to 30s, 5 feet 9 inches tall, with a medium build, facial hair, and an earring in the right ear that is described as "dangly". This suspect was last seen wearing a black leather jacket, black pants, and a black doo-rag.

Tempe police describe the second suspect as a white woman, in her mid 20s to 30s, 5 feet, 5 inches tall, with a medium build and dirty blonde hair. She was last seen wearing a black jacket, white polka dot pajama pants, and a grey shirt.

Riders react to news of robbery

Some light rail riders in Tempe say they feel there should be more security.

"At night, it does feel, like, a bit insecure," said one man. "For one reason, there are few people, and there are some people, when you see them, you feel a bit scared."

Still, others have had no problems.

"It helps everybody get to where they need to go, A to Point B," said one person.
