Tempe mother accused striking son, leaving 'golf ball sized' bruise

- A valley woman was arrested after police say she used some harsh methods to discipline her 10-year-old son.

41-year-old Audrey Call is accused of hitting her child and locking him outside of their home -- in the cold. The boy's only clothing was his underwear.

Call is accused of abusing her son over the use of an electronic device.

In court, the Tempe mother stayed quiet. Her lawyer did most of the talking.

"Having known Ms. Call for many years, I suspect this will be something that she can learn from and can put behind herself," said the lawyer.

According to court documents, Call is accused of multiple counts of abuse. It escalated from taking the electronic device away for one day to "being forcibly dragged out the front of the residence in only his underwear and locked out, forcing him to stand outside in his underwear for approximately 10 to 15 minutes in approximately 55 degree temperature."

The court documents state the mother is also accused of striking the child and leaving a golf ball sized bruise on the boy's face. The judge referenced that accusation in court.

"When contacted by the father at the school, the child still had the bruise on his face from what he claims his mother did and I know there is a different story by her as to how the injury allegedly occurred," said the judge.

The child's father says the suspect claimed the boy injured himself. When she was contacted by the police, Call requested to speak with a lawyer.
