Tempe Officers Association slams reports surrounding deadly shooting of teen

TEMPE, Ariz. (FOX 10) -- Officials with the Tempe Officers Associated issued a statement Monday evening, slamming what they claim are inaccurate information surrounding the shooting death of a teenager.

The deadly shooting took place on the 4500 block of S. Fair Lane. When officers arrived on scene, they saw a person who was in the process of burglarizing the car. Eventually, a chase took place, and during the chase, a police officer perceived a threat, and opened fire, hitting the suspect.

The suspect's identity was not released by police, but family members have since identified him as Antonio Arce.

In the news release, Tempe Officers Association President Rob Ferraro named three statements that he claims are "100% false", including statements that Arce was tasered by officers, that Arce was not carrying the pistol found beside his body, and that officers failed to administer CPR to Arce.

"This remains a tragic story for all concerned, including Arce's family, the community and our department. Stories rushed to print and those who rush to judgment serve only to make an awful story far, far worse," read the statement.

Earlier in the day, Tempe Police offiicals released a statement on the investigation, following a story published by newspaper The Arizona Republic. In the statement, police officials said some statements made in the article are in "direct conflict with the previous official statements given to our detectives on the day of the shooting".
