Law enforcement increase security at places of worship

PHOENIX, Ariz. (KSAZ) - Many local places of worship, specifically Jewish places, have increased security after the deadly shooting at a synagogue in Pittsburgh.

Tempe Police say they will increase security at local houses of worship.

In a statement they said, "In light of the horrific shooting today at a Jewish Synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Tempe PD will be providing continuous extra patrols to all of our houses of worship, and especially to our local Synagogues."

Police also noted they are currently doing a specific extra patrol for the Temple of Emanuel per their request for an event this weekend.

More than 1,000 people attending the annual Jewish national Fund Conference at the Biltmore woke up to the tragic news Saturday morning.

"In the Jewish community and the Jewish spirit and the spirit of good people, we're not going to be held down and let them win," said Russell Robinson, CEO of the Jewish National Fund.

Officials say 11 people were killed and six others wounded, including police officers, when a gunman opened fire in a synagogue during a baby's naming ceremony. The suspected gunman, Robert Bowers, was taken into custody.
