Tempe Police investigate attempted kidnapping of 6-year-old girl

Tempe Police are investigating the attempted kidnapping of a 6-year-old girl at an apartment complex near McClintock Drive and Broadway. Police say the girl was able to get away and find her mother.

According to Officer Matt Feddeler, when they arrived at the scene, they spoke with the child's mother, who said that the suspect tried to take her daughter, and put her in a vehicle just after 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.

The girl was in the apartment complex's courtyard area at the time.

Police describe the suspect as a black male, 20 to 30 years old and was last seen wearing a red t-shirt and black pants.

The suspect's vehicle, according to Feddler, is a black car that is possibly a four-door sedan.

Investigators don't believe the child knows the suspect or why he tried to take her.

The girl was not physically harmed. After talking with officers and counselors, she and her mother were provided with resources to get through the ordeal.
