Texas father who caused hospital standoff released

A Texas father who caused a standoff at a Texas Hospital earlier this year will spend the holidays with his family.

George Pickering was released from jail this week. He was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after he took a gun into the hospital to stop them from taking his son off life support in January.

Pickering's son was diagnosed as brain dead a year ago but is still alive in a hospital.

During the standoff, Pickering allegedly became belligerent and ordered the nurse and everyone out of the room. He was disarmed by one of his other sons.

Authorities say he surrendered after he was told his son would not be weaned from life support.
